What is a tamper evident seal?

As defined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a tamper-evident label or seal “is one having one or more indicators or barriers to entry which, if breached or missing, can reasonably be expected to provide visible evidence to consumers that tampering has occurred.”

How do tamper evident caps work?

Tamper evident caps are designed to alert producers and consumers of potential tampering. For safety, caps are designed with a secured ring attached to the cap by a thin bridge of plastic. When the cap is unscrewed from the container, the ring is broken and two pieces of the cap are apparent.

How do you put on a tamper evident cap?

Screw-on caps with a tamper evident seal should be screwed tightly on to the bottle ensuring the tamper band covers the neck ring of the bottle. After 24 hours when the plastic has had time to settle, the tamper band will then break when the cap is unscrewed.
